Munir backs Mundubile for presidency

Former Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has endorsed Tonse Alliance president Brian Mundubile as the preferred presidential candidate in the August 13 general elections.

Speaking in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mr Zulu said his endorsement followed wide consultations with church leaders, Muslim clergy and members of Parliament from both the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) and the opposition.

Mr Zulu said Mundubile had gained broad acceptance among Zambians.

He, however, warned of attempts to block Mr Mundubile’s candidature, describing the push behind the Tonse Alliance leader as a people-driven movement rather than an individual ambition.
He said the alliance would remain resolute regardless of any obstacles.

“We know that the state apparatus will do everything at their disposal to block his candidature, but this is a movement, not about individual aspirations.
“If Brian is blocked for whatever reason, another leader will emerge from the same movement because it reflects the collective will of the people,” Mr Zulu said.

He called on key opposition figures, including PF-Pamodzi Alliance president Makebi Zulu, Dr Chishimba Kambwili and PF vice president Given Lubinda, to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind Mr Mundubile in the interest of unity.

Mr Zulu also urged citizens to prioritise collective national interests over individual political aspirations, stressing the need for a united front ahead of the elections.

Addressing young people, Mr Zulu cautioned against political manipulation, urging them to support leadership that accommodates differing views and promotes tolerance.
